Term Description

Cafe Racer

A style of bike popularized in London in the '50s.


In a disk brake, a housing for cylinder, pistons and brake shoes, connected to the hydraulic system. The caliper holds the brake shoes so they straddle the brake disc.


Maintaining your speed through a turn by accelerating, and un-accelerating without using the brake.


The basic auto frame, which includes the engine, suspension, wheels, brakes and drive train.

Christmas Tree

An electronic starting device incorporating calibrated lights displaying a visual countdown for each driver, activated by a designated official.


A tool that connects and disconnects the wheels from the engine allowing the gears to interchange.

Clutch dust

Carbon dust created by the wearing of the surface of the clutch discs as they slide together during the clutch lockup process.

Contact Patch

The area of a tire's tread that is in contact with the ground.


The shaft that transmits power from the pistons to the differential.


A crosswalk is either (a) that portion of a roadway included within the prolongation or connection of the boundary lines of sidewalks at intersection where the intersecting roadways meet at approximately right angles, except the prolongation of such lines from an alley across a street or (b) any portion of a roadway distinctly indicated for pedestrian crossing by lines or other markings on the surface. There shall not be a crosswalk where signs have been placed indicating no crossing.

Crotch Rocket

A term to describe a high-performance motorcycle.
