Bikes Vs. Autos

I found a great video today explaining the rules, and behaviors cyclist. Being one that likes to ride long distance on a regular basis, I thought this video was right on the money. I have been hit three times so far over the years, but never by a courteous drivers. Once I got hit by two kids side swiping me, trying to steal my Taco Bell bag of all things. The other was a hit and run turning right into me as I continued to go straight, and the third was a complete ass that hit me from behind while I waited for a left turn light to turn green. I was stopped when he hit me, and basically he launched the handle bars/bike right from underneath me.

By the time you finish reading this blog about 3 vehicles will have been stolen in the U.S. According to The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), a vehicle is stolen every 25.5 seconds in the U.S. Vehicle theft accounts for over 7.6 billion dollars each year.

Here is a top 10 list of the most popular vehicles that are stolen each year:

1. 1995 Honda Civic
2. 1991 Honda Accord
3. 1989 Toyota Camry
4. 1997 Ford F-150 Series Pickup
5. 2005 Dodge Ram Pickup
6. 1994 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Pickup
7. 1994 Nissan Sentra
8. 1994 Dodge Caravan
9. 1994 Saturn SL
10. 1990 Acura Integra

In a matter of seconds, a car thief can break into a locked vehicle and drive away. If your lucky, they just needed to borrow your car and will abandon it somewhere to be found later without too much damage. Unfortunately, this isn’t the reality for most auto theft victims who never see their vehicle again unless they have pictures of it. Many stolen vehicles are taken to a chop shop and parted-out for money. Alarms don’t work most of the time.

The next time you’re in a busy parking lot and you hear an alarm going off watch the people around you. You may be surprised to find out that most people find it annoying and won’t even look in that direction or be “alarmed” by it. If the vehicle battery cable is cut, the alarm won’t work anyway. However, most GPS tracking devices have a built-in backup battery.

Certain states and certain vehicles have a higher theft rate than others. However, it’s important to remember that any vehicle can be stolen anywhere at anytime. Regardless of where you live or what you drive, if you want to protect your assets and prevent your auto insurance from cost down, you need a way to recover your vehicle quickly with a theft recovery device or anti theft device.

A GPS tracking device is really the only way to ensure that you will be able to recover your vehicle. A web-based vehicle tracking system will allow you to immediately go online and locate your vehicle. There are several tracking devices online to choose from. Now, before you go online and buy a GPS tracking device, check to make sure your vehicle is still where you left it.
